At the Catholic Development Fund, we are proud to offer competitive investment rates to our members, while also delivering outstanding personal service. Together, we are working for a united community and a vibrant future. Prudential management harnesses the fund’s operating surplus to bolster capital works across our Diocese such as new early childhood education and school facilities. It also enables the Church to fulfil its essential pastoral mission and charitable work through agencies including CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning. So, your choice to invest with the fund is financially and ethically sound, assists children and young people to learn and prosper and helps those in our community who need a bit of extra support.
We welcome you to the Catholic Development Fund, where your money works for you and for others to live well.
Best regards,
Jenny Chung, Fund Manager
Our members could be students saving for a first car, families planning a holiday, investors seeking a competitive rate, or grandparents helping the grandkids. Whoever they are, our customers love our fund for enabling them to benefit themselves and the community at the same time.
Our customers think strategically — with both their heads and their hearts. If we didn’t have our customers, we would not be able to fund so many significant projects. Over the past five years, the fund has helped contribute funding for more than $150m in quality infrastructure, services and educational excellence across the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese.
Every customer counts and makes a huge difference to the lives of those in our local community.
“The fund supports school developments and other initiatives such as affordable housing, early education through St Nicholas and the good work of CatholicCare.”
The Catholic Development Fund (CDF) has been a presence within the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle for more than 60 years. The CDF assists with the management of finances for the Diocese and its agencies, parishes and schools. It also offers retail clients a range of investment products.
The CDF operates under an intermediary authorisation with CDFMN AFSL Limited Australian Financial Services Licence No. 504182.
The CDF not only supports our schools and childcare, and the good grassroots work of CatholicCare, it also enables the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle and its various agencies and instrumentalities to further develop existing initiatives and sanction new ministries.
I thank all investors for their loyal support, which enables the CDF to help the Diocese and its agencies do God’s good work.
Your loyal support and your faith together form the bedrock of the CDF.
The best way we can thank you for this is for the fund to continue to serve you and your needs.
Bishop Bill Wright
The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle extends from Morisset in the south, to Taree in the north, and as far inland as Merriwa and Murrurundi. Through its parishes, pastoral groups and agencies including the Catholic School Office, CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning, St Nicholas Early Education and the Catholic Development Fund, the Diocese provides pastoral, educational, social welfare, financial and community development services. The Diocese employs approximately 3,500 staff across these agencies.
The Catholic Development Fund (CDF or the Fund) has been established in this diocese for over 50 years. The Fund is audited annually and produces an Annual Report for the Diocesan Finance Council that is available to the public. The Fund only lends for Church or school-related projects and surplus funds are directed back to Church-related charitable works. Money invested with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Development Fund ABN 59 728 447 508 (Fund) is used to support the charitable works of the Catholic Church. This is achieved by providing a return on your investment that enables us to provide low-cost funding to assist Catholic organisations, including Catholic schools. Accordingly, we are required by law to tell you that your investment with us is not comparable to those with banks, finance companies or fund managers. The Fund is not regulated by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) nor has it been examined or approved by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) because we have been granted exemptions.
Under these exemptions, we are required by law to tell you that: you will not receive the benefit of the financial claims scheme or the depositor protection provisions in the Banking Act 1959 (Cth); investments that the Fund offers are not subject to the usual protections for investors under the Corporations Act (Cth) or regulation by ASIC; investments that the Fund offers are intended to attract investors whose main investment objective is to support our charitable work; we have an identification statement which contains information about us which may be viewed here; the Fund does not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence; there is a risk that you may not get any of your money back from us.
Investments with the CDF are guaranteed by the Bishop of the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese. CDPF Limited, a company established by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, has indemnified the Fund against any liability arising out of a claim by investors in the Fund.
